Deconstructing sexual abuse of athletes and bystanders who perpetuated a culture of turning a blind eye
January 29, 2021
8:45 am – 4:30 pm
Join the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law for an online conference that will discuss different issues—legal and non-legal alike– germane to examining assaults on athletes, including hearing the voices of the survivors. The conference will address ethical, legal, legislative, institutional, and medical questions in an effort to better understand the causes of the abuse and examine ways to prevent abuse in the future. The invited panelists represent a broad spectrum of expertise and experience who we are confident can shed important light on the many aspects of this issue and suggest ways to proactively address what has become an epidemic. While we understand the discussion is painful for many, we believe there is a compelling need —in the aftermath of Michigan State University, Penn State University, Ohio State University, USA Gymnastics, and the University of Michigan—-to directly address the abuse of athletes. 6 hours CLE credit (pending).
