What are you up to now?

Since graduating in 2022 with a BS in sociology and a minor in ethnic studies, I continue to work in an administrative capacity for Transform. The part of my job I am most passionate about is working with Transform students.

How has your degree from the School for Cultural and Social Transformation prepared you for this?

This position has allowed me to grow and be vested in other learning processes. Transform overall, not just ethnic studies, has allowed me to see things differently in how societal issues are really all our issues and how to be a better advocate.

How do you feel your degree impacts those around you and the field that you are pursuing?

Ethnic studies has allowed me to become more socially responsible and advocate for change whenever I can. Transform continues to show me how to approach those times when I feel I have no power…here, I am reminded that I just must find it because we all have a certain level of power and need to find ways to tap into it.

Working as a staff member in Transform, and continuing to learn from all the Transform disciplines, has made me realize the importance of systemic injustice and the fight against inequality. This degree has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to advocate for change in every situation that interacts into my life because advocacy makes an impact no matter how small it might feel. It has also given me the confidence to make change within myself, so I don’t lose sight of my own opinions and feelings.
